Alderville Pow Wow this Weekend a celebration of Anishinabeg culture

Spent a great fun-filled informative day at the Alderville Pow Wow yesterday where I was privileged to meet several amazing Artisans. Alderville is about 1hr 15 minutes east north east of Toronto.

Thanks to VALERIE MACDONALD of Northumberland, for posting the news article.

First Nations dancers, drumming, culture and a feast are what makes the 15th annual Alderville Pow Wow the place to be this weekend.

Events on both Saturday and Sunday begin with a grand entry to the Pow Wow grounds at 5787 Roseneath Landing. View Larger Map' target=_blank>Roseneath.

"All of the dancers that are coming from all over Ontario parade in," Pow Wow volunteer Bruce Smoke says. "We honour Mother Earth this way."

The parade is dancing, not marching, Smoke says. Saturday it takes place between noon and 1 p. m., and Sunday at noon sharp.

The Pow Wow is dedicated to "honour our young people" as well as celebrating Anishinabeg culture and heritage," literature about the event states.

Included at the Pow Wow will be crafts and food vendors, dancing and drumming specials.

A feast takes place at the Community Centre shortly after 6 p. m. Saturday, Smoke said. A Saturday-night coffee house and open mic event follow the feast.

"This year we are featuring Alderville's young, up-and-coming group, The Last Reason, at 8:30 p. m.," states a media release.

Sunday's Alderville First Nation Pow Wow concludes around 4.
